Camping Checklist
There is nothing that is more exciting or adventurous than going on a camping trip. The fresh air, the smell of the trees and just being away from civilization gives you a refreshed and different feeling. When planning such a trip you should create a camping checklist since campsites are usually a number of miles from the nearest store. The following is a list of the bare essentials.
Shelter. This may include a tent or other type of shelter that will protect one from the elements of the weather. It should be water proof and provide some sort of flooring for protection from the damp ground and crawling insects.
Sleeping equipment. This may be in the form of a simple sleeping bag, fold up cot, inflatable mattress or something that will be comfortable to lie on. If not using a sleeping bag extra blankets are a good idea.
Cooking equipment. Unless a person is using something such as k-rations, having a good portable stove and cooking pans will allow for the preparation of appetizing meals. The type of stove one takes on a camping trip depends on where they are going. Portable stoves today are a far cry from those of long ago and it is easy to find one that will be perfect for the trip. They are light weight and can be stowed easily. If you are planning on an extended trip extra fuel might be necessary.
Solar panel. This is something that is fairly new on the market. It is small and utilizes the rays of the sun to produce light and/or heat. It is easy to carry and can be an excellent addition to standard equipment.
Eating utensils and dishes. No one wants to pack up the kitchen to go camping.
Water. Most camp sites have water available for things such as bathing and doing dishes. However, many water sources such as rivers are contaminated and can make you sick. For this reason it is important to carry sufficient water for drinking and cooking.
Food. Food should be selected that is easy to pack and transport. It is very easy in today’s markets to obtain food in small containers that can be used once and discarded. Many sporting stores also have concentrated foods that are delicious.
Ground and table cover. Having a large tarp for a ground cover is an excellent way to keep the camp site clean and free from dust that often arises in dry country. A good plastic table cover with clips to hold it down will be easy to clean and cover a camp table.
Table. If you are going to a camp site that does not have tables there are a number of excellent fold-up varieties on the market. These are lightweight and very easy to transport to and from the camp site.
Lantern and/or flashlight. It gets dark very quickly around a camping area so having good light is a must. There are a number of excellent gas lanterns available which give excellent illumination to the campsite. Flashlights are a necessity when trying to find your way in the dark.
A camping trip with the right equipment can be a thing of joy. Getting away from the cares of everyday life allows a person to return refreshed and ready to begin work again.
